Sustainability is commonly defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.  The United Nations identifies the promotion of economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection as the three conditions necessary for sustainability. Public concern about how products and services are produced have brought issues related to environmental preservation and social justice to the forefront.
